Anyone who works in a marketing agency, company or runs a marketing gig knows that some kinds of the client are just not worth their time. However, it takes them months or sometimes years to understand this.

After working in the marketing industry for quite a few years we are certain there is a lot that we have learned to spot the subtle red flags.

However, if you are in this industry then you might save a lot of your time and resources by knowing how to spot the red flags and do not invest in such clients at all.

So here we go:

They are a Startup

Okay, so before you label this statement as controversial hear us out. A business that has recently launched itself and wants to connect to a marketing agency is doing it all wrong. The amount of energy and resources required for a marketing agency to serve a client can be a bit overwhelming for the newly set up business.

Instead, what a startup needs to do is get in touch with the best-suited contractor or find talent within the company such as a trained employee in this field. Another factor in this statement is that a business that has not run for over 5 years does not have the resources needed to hire a marketing agency.

When you are outsourcing a marketing team you do need revenue. And a business that has just started does not have a heavy marketing budget. A lot of entrepreneurs are unaware of the depth of marketing. Thinking that turning their business to social media marketing can bring great benefits to them.

Making them understand that social media marketing is not the switch that can boost revenue generation is a lot more beneficial for them, than working entirely for them. A lot of newly established businesses are now working and functioning from home.

In this case, if they manage to a hire single employee for marketing practice and provide him or her with the essentials such as a stable high see internet connection at home from Spectrum and the right working tools, it can bring great benefit to them.

Thank them for reaching out but let them know that you will be willing to help them out once the website is running.

Reluctant Toward Normal Policies

Having some reservations are normal. But companies that do not adhere to the normal policies for your marketing agency can be a No-No sign. There are a lot of companies that have a problem with the payment, the time frame required to complete the task, and sometimes don’t understand the proposal at all.

And in this case, it doesn’t matter how big the brand is, how interested you are to work with them, or how sweet the deal is – if a company cannot respect the standard policies then won’t be respecting the time and resources you put in performing their task.

Policies are meant to be followed to implement a boundary which later ensures that the work is done smoothly. If the initial stage is short, you would know how horrific the process can be.

Learn to Say No

Sometimes, having the ability to reject an offer can be a bigger task than performing it. There are a lot of companies out there that would be working in your team, in your niche or industry, and will be cooperating with you. Similarly, there are a lot that won’t do any such thing. It is up to you what to choose.
